This is since hundreds of years ago, the Incas decided to take advantage of the\u00a0<b>high salt concentration offered by the Qaqa Wi\u00f1a mountain<\/b>, building small pools along the slope.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, this allowed them to stagnate the water of the hypersaline subway spring that crosses these lands, originated more than 110 million years ago, in the process of formation of what we know today as the Andes Mountains.\u00a0<b>When this water evaporates, the result is the famous maras salt<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout history, the salt obtained in the\u00a0<b>Maras salt pools were used to treat food, and later, as a commercial product due to its healing properties<\/b>. When visiting Maras, we can\u00a0<b>buy as a souvenir the typical salt jars from the local stores<\/b>. And bearing in mind that it is so beneficial to one\u2019s health and is\u00a0<b>pink!<\/b>, who wouldn\u2019t want to take a handful of salt as a souvenir?<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Archaeological_sites_in_Moray\"><\/span><span id=\"Archaeological_sites_in_Moray\">Archaeological sites in Moray<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Another jewel that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/atvcuscoadventures.com\/tours\/rainbow-mountain-on-atv\/\">Peru<\/a>\u00a0offers us, only 5 kilometers away from the town of Maras and 15 kilometers from\u00a0Ollantaytambo, are the archaeological ruins of Moray. This town is known for its\u00a0<strong>complex agricultural constructions, in the form of terraces one above the other in a concentric way, forming a kind of agricultural amphitheaters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9641\" title=\"archaeological ruins of Moray\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howlanders.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/moray-peru.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 825px) 100vw, 825px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.howlanders.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/moray-peru.jpg 825w, https:\/\/www.howlanders.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/moray-peru-619x300.jpg 619w, https:\/\/www.howlanders.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/moray-peru-768x372.jpg 768w\" alt=\"archeological ruins of Moray\" width=\"825\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These buildings, built by the Incas, owe their shape to the fact that they were once a kind of\u00a0<strong>agricultural laboratory<\/strong>. Each one of these platforms has an approximate height of 1.8 meters. This allowed farmers to obtain\u00a0<b>specific microclimates on each platform<\/b>, thus providing them with different products according to the level at which they were located.<\/p>\n<p><b>Differences of up to 15\u00baC have been calculated<\/b>\u00a0between the highest part of a platform and the lowest one, and a\u00a0<b>height of 150 meters in the deepest \u201chole\u201d<\/b>\u00a0found so far.<\/p>\n<p>With this variation in climate on different platforms, it is believed that the locals obtained around\u00a0<b>250 different varieties of vegetables in the same hole<\/b>. To achieve this, the Incas used complex hydraulic systems that worked separately on each of the terraces.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Chinchero_market\"><\/span><span id=\"Chinchero_market\">Chinchero market<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Finally, we must talk about the town of\u00a0<strong>Chinchero and its market<\/strong>. This beautiful place, located halfway between<a href=\"https:\/\/atvcuscoadventures.com\/tours\/city-tour-cusco-half-day\/\">\u00a0Cuzco\u00a0<\/a>and Maras, offers us spectacular views of the Vilcabamba and Urubamba mountain ranges.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth mentioning this town located at more than 3,7000 meters of altitude, its\u00a0<b>traditional and colorful market<\/b>. Most importantly, this market has always been dedicated to the textile trade in the area and is one of the most important in the region.<\/p>\n<p>We can not forget its buildings, among which are\u00a0<b>Inca ruins, the Plaza de Armas, and the Church of Montserrat<\/b>. This colonial church made of adobe was built on ancient remains of Inca buildings.
