The Waqrapukara Tour is a new and fascinating tourist attraction that promises a unique experience. Its name comes from two Quechua words: “Waqra”, meaning horn, and “Pukara”, meaning fortress.
This journey immerses you in an enriching experience, connecting you with the stories and history of the Inca Empire. The archaeological site, designated as a Cultural Heritage of the Nation, is surrounded by impressive plazas, terraces, and a stunning stone forest.
A full day dedicated to discovering the magic and spirituality of Waqrapukara Fortress, often referred to as the “Machu Picchu of the pre-Incas”. The hike, of moderate difficulty, reaches its highest point at the horns of the fortress, standing 4,300 meters above sea level (14,000 feet).

04:00 – 05:30: Pickup from Accommodation – Transfer to Cusipata – Breakfast
Your journey begins with a 04:00 a.m. pickup from your accommodation by a representative of ATV Cusco Adventures, who will drive you to the picturesque town of Cusipata, located south of Cusco. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a delicious local breakfast, with opportunities to purchase beverages, snacks, sunscreen, and souvenirs.
06:00 – 08:00: Cusipata – Sangarara – Start of the Hike
After breakfast, we continue the journey to the village of Sangarara, making a brief stop along the way to admire Pomacanchi Lake, one of the largest bodies of water in the region. Upon reaching Sangarara, we will take the detour that leads to the start of the hike to the archaeological site of Waqrapukara, where the adventure of exploration begins.
08:00 – 11:00: Hike – Discover Waqrapukara
At the starting point, our professional guide will provide all the necessary instructions before we begin the hike to Waqrapukara. This approximately two-hour trek will take you through natural landscapes, without the typical infrastructure found at other destinations. Here, you will immerse yourself in the history and legends surrounding this impressive archaeological site. During the hike, there will be plenty of time to explore the area, take photographs, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding canyons and rock formations.
13:00 – 19:00: Lunch – Return to Cusco
After the hike, we will gather at a designated point to enjoy a picnic-style lunch, specially prepared for you. After resting and recharging, we will begin our return journey, which will include a walk of about three hours. Throughout the trek, you will have the opportunity to connect with nature and experience the peaceful surroundings, surrounded by mountains and lush landscapes. We are expected to return to Cusco by 19:00, where the tour will end at Plaza Regocijo.
